What is the scariest photo you've ever seen?

It is a dead woman known under the name “Jane Doe” — one of the Sumter County Does. Until January 21, 2021 that is.

THE SUMTER COUNTY DOES

In the early morning of August 9, 1976 a trucker found the bodies of a man and a woman.

Further research and autopsies never lead to an identification:

The coroner noted that the young woman had "unusually long," natural eyelashes and that both victims were very clean and well-groomed. She had fillings in all of her back teeth, and her front teeth would have appeared straight even if she were to smile. She had no surgical scars, had never been pregnant, and her legs had not been shaved.

(“Her legs had not been shaved” seems a pretty macabre observation to me.)

Since the bodies were found in Sumter County, South Carolina, they were baptized the “Sumter County Does” — the man nicknamed “Jock Doe” and the woman “Jane Doe.”

LEAD THEORY

A man named Lonnie George Henry was arrested in 1977 due to him driving intoxicated, and a gun was found in his car.

Later it turned out (through test-firing) that the gun was the murder weapon, but due to insufficient evidence, he was never charged.

(He died in 1982).

Serial killer Henry Lee Lucas claimed to be in the neighborhood when the murders were committed, but Lucas was well known for fabricating stories, and he was not believed.

IDENTIFICATION

On January 21, 2021 at a press conference the true names of the murder victims was revealed.

Through the DNA Doe project — an organization which seeks to solve unidentified decedent cases —the Sumter County Does were known in the end.

I want to clean up how ships work. I was thinking of taking factory bonuses out of poker but decided to leave it for now. I added a coastal defense system, which hopefully will be good, nerf the navy a bit and up the power of factories.

Slaughtered child in WWII

This photo shows Italian General Alexandro Luzanostanding above a slaughtered Serbian child in front of a school in Prebilovci. The letter he sent to Mussolini after this crime has been preserved in the military archives:

"Dear Duce,

My boundless devotion to you, I hope, entitles me to deviate in some way from strict military protocol. That is why I hasten to describe to you an event that I personally attended three weeks ago.

While visiting the districts of Stolac, Capljina and Ljubinje (between 60 and 130 km north of Dubrovnik) - I learned from our intelligence officers that Pavelic's Ustashas had committed a crime in a village (Prebilovci) the day before, and that when it became known , the surrounding Serbs to be upset again.

We sent a patrol after him, but in vain; they found him on the doorstep of the slaughtered house! Out of a thousand or so souls, there is no one left in the village! On the same day, we discovered that later, when a crime was committed at the school, the Ustashas captured another 800 inhabitants of the village of Prebilovci and threw them all into a pit or killed them in an animal way on the way to the pit.

Only about 300 men were saved. Only they managed to break through the Ustasha ring around the village and escape to the mountains! Those 300 survivors are stronger than Pavelic's most elite division. Everything they had to lose they lost! Children, women, mothers, sisters, houses, property. Even the fear of death is freed.

The meaning of their life is only in revenge, in the terrible revenge of them is, in a way, the shame that they survived! And Herzegovina, Bosnia, Lika, Dalmatia are full of such villages as Prebilovci.

The massacres of Serbs have reached such proportions that many water sources have been polluted in those areas. From a spring in Popovo Polje, not far from the pit into which 4,000 Serbs were thrown, reddish water erupted, I was personally convinced of that! An indelible stain will fall on the conscience of Italy and our culture, if, while the time is right, we do not distance ourselves from the Ustashas and prevent it from being attributed to us for supporting insanity! "

What Is a Nautical-but-Nice Ship?

It's a little ship to use to hold armies for playing a naval version of Risk.

How to Make It?

It's made of bits of corrugated cardboard cut from the same single template.

The corrugated cardboard makes it thick, plus it's easy to glue with Elmer's Glue.

Cutting it out and Putting it Together

I take three identical cuts of corrugated cardboard ship hull shapes for each ship

The first piece is the "hull," which goes on the bottom, and doesn't get cut to smaller bits at all.

The second piece, cut into two, are the "gunwales," which are glued along the edges of the "hull."

The final piece, also cut into two parts, forms the fore and aft castles. These are glued on top in front and back, and cover the "gaps" at each end of the gunwales pieces.

...and you're done!

Dressing it Up?

I have not tried it, but it might be possible to cover these in papier-mâché, but I have not tried it. I would suggest using tissue or toilet paper. I'll post more if I try that.
