Why can’t everybody be like Studio Ghibli and have interesting compelling female protagonists?
I’m this close 👌🏾 to going on a misogyny/homophobia diet in media. GOT is all about women being disenfranchised by whatever feudal system they’ve got there and of course burning gays at the stake 🔥 is perfectly okay 👍🏻 It’s just a question of whether we’re actively doing it or not—it’s always on the table.
And we only have a couple of “strong female characters” who defy the odds, in the teeth 🦷 🦷 of all this bullshit, to basically take their rightful place.
It’s familiar, I guess. Misogyny and homophobia can always be dusted off and used to “spice up” boring patches in any lackluster narrative.
Studio Ghibli, a lot of French 🇫🇷 stuff, and so on, provide an alternative.
If we’re writing fantasy, why not just Chuck all that shit out the window? 🪟
Yes, female protagonists. But do they have to be battling a bunch of misogynistic stereotypes in every single show. I’m bored with it! Bored! 😑
Why not a woman 👩 astronaut 👩🚀 working out how to have kids and take care of them in space?
Why not the life of Albert Einstein but with Ol’ Mr. E=mc2 played by an actress, just to be cute?
